Last weekend, my parents came up to help me move. The movers came on Saturday to move all the furniture, and we moved the rest of the stuff in two car trips. Now I'm all moved out of my apartment, and it's nice and clean. My lease is up the end of this month.
After that, my dad worked in the yard pruning bushes and my mom worked inside unpacking. I was mostly outside helping my dad with the yardwork. In the end, we generated a huge pile of branches on my driveway. While I was outside working, my next-door neighbor came over and introduced himself. He was very nice, and let me borrow his ladder to put my screens up.
On Sunday, we hit the depo for a new mailbox post (the old one was rotten and falling apart). The post was a little too big, and fractured the bottom of the small brick base. So now a pair of large rocks is keeping the bricks from moving.
After my parents left, it took me 6 hours to get all the branches and ivy into the form that the trash peeps wanted. While I was out working on it, another neighbor came over and introduced himself. He was very nice too.
The trash peeps hauled all the brush away on Wednesday, and now my front yard looks great.
Part of the yard work my dad did was pull off all the ivy that had attached itself to the side of my house. The first floor was on chicken wire, but the ivy had roots directly in the siding on the second floor. The removal of the ivy revealed a very large ant colony living under the paneling (probably found their way in through holes the ivy made). They have a line of workers pulling food from my compost pile.
They must go.
