The weekend isn't even 1/2 over and already I've had adventures. Not all of them good.

When I was driving home from my friend's house on friday at 2:30am, a cop pulled me over (I think he was bored and looking for people to give tickets to, and I still have NJ plates). Since I transferred my insurance to Texas in January, he cited me for not getting TX plates or license.

So today in order to get TX plates I get my car inspected. So I drop my car off at around 1:45pm, and he says it'll take about 2 hours and 30 minutes, because they have a backlog. So I go randomly walking around the area. It's in the low 90s, and slightly cloudy. It's not so bad outside when the clouds cover the sun, but when the sun is shining full-force, it's unpleasant. I stop in a convenience store and buy a bottle of water. I walk over to this burrito place, but when I get there I'm not hungry. So I go walking in the other direction and find a garage sale. The garage sale is off the main road (6-lane) that I've been walking on, and it has lots of trees to shade the sidewalk. It's much nicer walking down that road. I've killed roughly 1 hour
and 45 minutes by walking around now.

I ask the garage sale guy if he's selling any of his lawn chairs, but he says they're "too hard to come by". He tries to sell me a VCR, some tapes, a weed whacker, an exercise machine, and cots. I decline and continue walking on.

I notice "hey, this neighborhood looks familiar", and stop in at my friends' house (I only roughly knew the way to their place before, now I'll remember it!). They're both surprised to see me, and offer me a cold drink and some AC while he opens his birthday presents.

My car's brakes have been making noise ever since I left it undriven for a few weeks in my NJ parking lot. So I wasn't very surprised to get a call from the inspection place saying it failed because of my brakes. The guy at the store said he had never seen brakes worn in that way and wanted to know if I "raced my car". I told him no, and to go ahead and fix things.

So now I have another hour and a half to kill.

My friends are going to a block party, so I help them make some deviled eggs. By the time the eggs were done, my car was ready and passed inspection. We go and pick up the car. The guys at the shop stayed an extra 10 minutes past their closing, which was nice of them. We all drive back to their place.

There was a good sized crowd of people at the party. Lots of good food (the eggs were very tasty), and we got a lot of good talking done.

We went back to their house and played one of my friend's birthday presents, a card game named "Ninja Burger". You have to deliver burgers in a ninja style to win. It was a little confusing to learn, but a fun game.

When I get home, I examined my receipt from the car inspectors. They marked that the rear right tire has a nail in it, and they give an estimate that it'll cost $650 to replace all the tires in order to fix it. I go out and look, and sure enough the right rear tire has a small round metal things embedded in it.

So now I think I can get a discount on my citation if I get all my registration/license paperwork done within 10 business days.

game night, austin, things breaking, moving, adventures
