It's extremely flattering to be encouraged to find a job down here (I could be a chimney sweep or warehouse worker, among other things). I think I'm too comfortable w. a cosmopolitan lifestyle, but am seriously considering. Evidently I also cook the best pork chops int the world. Makes it hard to think about leaving.

I was given my birthday/Xmas presents early. E.T Bell's "Men of Mathematics", Gamon & Bragdon's "Building Mental Muscle", a Get Fuzzy collection "Groovitude" an assortment of videotapes, including Princess Mononoke, and a collection of music from the "tea countries" of East Asia. I do get the best presents from the Harpers.

On the other hand, my feeble skills w. a hammer make me want to slink off in shame. I have mere days in which to redeem myself. Tomorrow we go to Athens, partly to go to the liquor store (liquor laws are strict around here) and partly to do the tourist thing. I need to stop by the liquor store in order to pick up some orange liqueur for mouselline au chocolat. I don't think they have double boiler here. I'm looking forward to the challenge.

And then there's the books. I am a packrat by nature, but am trying to pare down to a spartan life by choice (for various reasons). It is an odd feeling now to spend time w. people w. room enough to collect books in the fashion I would like to become accustomed. They're everywhere, enough to run a small library. I've spent much time simply scanning book spines and noting treasures I might like to someday acquire or at least read myself.

There's more to write about; goats, fence building, shopping, a healthy country diet, e.t.c..., but this is as much as I have patience for right now. There are books to read and I have to pee.

I leave you with this. Pro-life activists who get abortions. It doesn't affect my opinion regarding abortion one way or the other(if you want to know, ask). Rather, it merely conforms by dark opinions regarding human nature. The mundane monstrosities we are capable of. These are people who are committing murder by their own definition. I find the violent extremists less disturbing.
