Well I suppose I should update about my recent trip. Tom and I went to a wedding for one of his co-workers/friends in Mauritius. I must say that the trip was pretty spectacular. The plane ride was a bit of a pain, as Mauritius is practically as far away from the bay area as one can get.
The resort was amazing. The rooms were awesome, and there were quite a few restaurants available. We were on a half-board plan, meaning we got a breakfast buffet and a dinner buffet and we were on our own for the rest. Or we could get a credit toward dinner instead of the buffet. We did end up doing this twice since the buffet, while better than most buffets, was still a buffet and the quality of food from one is still not as good as from a real restaurant.
The wedding was beautiful. It was at a restaurant on the waterfront, with a view of the ocean behind the bride and groom. The vows were sweet, and the groom was bursting with tears because he was so emotional. It was an amazing sight to see. The poems read were perfect, and the celebrant slipped out after the two were married and the mothers were reading poems. It was kind of amusing. There were drinks on the beach, and the dinner was probably the best wedding meal I've ever had. There was dancing until late, and it was really a fine evening.
There was a boat ride to a waterfall and an island that we went on, which was quite enjoyable and relaxing. We rented a car and drove to Port Louis to view the city and see some of the sights there. We also had two fabulous non-buffet non-wedding dinners which were some of the best meals I've ever had.
All in all, I'd say to people to go visit Mauritius at least once. There's something magical about it, and something to be said about a tropical holiday on the other side of the world! Hopefully, I'll be putting my pictures up sometime in the near future.
