So my best childhood friend's mom used to make this cake called a Harvey Wallbanger cake. It was always so tasty, and it was always such a treat when I was at their house and this cake was available. Well a few days ago I was on Facebook and my friend's dad had posted that Debbie had made a lot of cake for a party. So of course, I naturally thought "Harvey Wallbanger!" and then decided that I needed to make one.
I googled for the recipe, as one would do, and I found several of them. However, all of them start from a box of cake mix and use a package of instant pudding. Since I live in the UK, these things are not really available to me (although I did find out I could substitute custard powder for instant pudding). I did manage to find one from scratch recipe online:
http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/harvey-wallbanger-from-scratch-recipe?recipe_id=1208803870678 I'm definitely going to make it. The other issue is the lack of bundt cake pans in the UK. Apparently they're not popular either. Although I did find one on amazon which makes a very pretty fleur de lys pattern instead of the standard bundt cake, so when that comes I'm ready to go.
Galliano was also a bit difficult to find, but after searching online at most of the supermarkets, I found it was at Sainsbury's, so I've picked up some of that as well. I'm looking forward to trying out this cake and seeing how it compares to the one I had as a kid!
