Whoever can get me a copy of the Russian movie "D´Artagnan and the Three Musketeers" with Alexander Trofimov as Cardinal Richelieu shall get my firstborn something very nice of their own choice by way of thanks.
Because I saw
a stamp-sized version posted by
amgirl (how come this movie never made it to the West?!) and, though the movie is the zaniest disco music (!) version ever, Alexander Trofimov is the truest, most life-canon, most hypnotising Richelieu ever, down to his dangerously silky voice. And I´ve seen them all, including the fabulous French TV series of 1983 starring Pierre Vernier.
(Speaking of the only other enigmatic-machiavelic Prince of the Church who could ever give my adored Cardinal a run for his money, the Pope (a.k.a. High Inquisitor Ratzinger for his groupies like
izmeina and me *g*) is in Vienna and about to take a bath in the crowd just outside my window (same place where Hitler did seventy years ago - plus ça change.) I´d very much like to look into the face of this fascinating character, and though I wouldn´t exactly care to shake hands, any messages you care to leave for him I´ll print out and try to deliver.
