After the flood

Like many of my Apple using friends, I was underwhelmed by the focus of this product release event. Granted I now want both a new 8 gigabyte Nano and a 16 gigabyte Touch.

But I so want to see Apple move on from a very tired laptop and desktop lineup. Intel has provided almost 2 full generations of processors and speed bumps that Apple could have implemented rather than delaying.

The Mac Mini is over one year old with no revision or speed bump. And with the economy in the state it is in (and most likely will remain in until 2010), they are in clear need of a sub-$1000 headless Mac that matches the power and capacity of the MacBook: 2.4GHz and 4 gigabytes of RAM.

Rumors swirl around MacBook and MacBook Pro updates sometime in October. The newest Intel chipsets and graphic processors will be in the pipeline, allowing for a Mac Mini that will rival my 2.33GHz MacBook Pro!

Come on, Apple. Deliver.
