Today Apple released the latest wave of MacBook Pro hardware, improved beyond my wildest hopes.

For the first time, the mid and top line MBPs are shipping with two gigabytes of RAM standard! And the 15" models both have the valuable Firewire 800 port for more flexible drive choices. While the preferred eSATA RAID boxes already shipping with the interface card for the new MBP models are faster, they are a tad more complicated with the aforementioned interface card and cables. And you need AC power for the drives. Granted that one should be connected to AC for things like video editing and the like, but having a choice of Firewire 400 and 800 drives opens up the market.

While prices did not go down, the two new features did not increase the price either. The only down side is that the motherboard of both the 15" and 17" MBP are limited to three gigabytes of RAM, and that RAM costs $570 from Apple if you have it installed by them. I doubt that I would need more than two gigs in the field, so that's not an issue for me or the work I do.

All that's left is to fix the date to buy one of these miracles.
