A story written by Orsen Scott Card may reach out to young people battling with a handicap or other debilitating condition on the grounds that Bean, the Protagonist in the story is given a genetic alteration that trades his life expectancy for the gift of being smarter than other kids with a knack for finding flaws in human judgement and being in tune to the motivations behind the actions of others.
Ender's shadow can be a book for children that feel cheated by God and argues for each of us being our own God perhaps even that hardship builds the truest character and that human character is the meme of God.
