I feel slightly dissapointed at finishing the year off by re-reading a novel, but never mind. It's for my first tutorial, and a book I always enjoy hugely, for varying reasons. The first time, it was the novelty of reading an older book (I remember I bought this and Wuthering Heights about two years ago, as my first foray into anything other than teen lit). The second was for the pure romance of it all. The third, for the gothic. And this time; for the Gothic (that's the subject of my tutorial), but also for Jane as a character and as symptomatic of Eyre's values and opinions, as well as those of her day.
And guess what? It's still a great read. It took me about 6 hours altogether to finish, I think, because I was just racing through it.
And so the year ends, not with a bang, with with slight fizzle.
However, I accomplished my aim in reading 50 books this year, and I'm very proud. I think I might do the same again.
