So it begins...

8am, just southwest of Washington, DC.

I took the dog out for his morning walk. It was quiet. Very quiet. There was a strong breeze blowing, and the sky was overcast. It felt a little coastal in a way. It was humid, but not too hot. I could hear airplanes taking off from Reagan National Airport, so they're still moving...for now. I noted several people still have stuff on their porches. I removed the glass from my porch table just a few minutes ago, but I'm leaving the table there, because it's metal and heavy. I did move it away from the banister though, just to be safe. The dog tried his best to be in the way.

From the RADAR it looks like the first wave of rain is only a short distance away...maybe a couple hours. The first patch of green is starting to cover the "Washington, DC" name on the RADAR map.

I'm heading up to do my volunteer reading thing this morning, and if it's not too bad after, I'll go to the gym. If it is getting bad by that time, I'll probably just go to our apartment's fitness center.

I was hoping to have gotten to the grocery store last night, but we don't have the weekly menu made up, so I guess that will have to wait. At this point, it might just wait until after the storm. Maybe that will be better, as everyone will have been rushing to buy things before. Though I don't know if we'll have power or if there will be anything left on the shelves. LOL From the sounds of things, the storm has been moved down to Cat 1, and we'll just be getting "tropical storm" conditions inland here, so maybe it won't be any worse than some of the wild thunder storms that move through. If that's the case, then it won't be an issue. I live right next to a sewer treatment plant, an electrical substation, and the Metro runs just on the other side of the road, so it's likely that if the power goes down, they'll be working to get this area back up and running before less critical ones. Thank goodness I don't live in SE DC any more!

More updates to come as I have them!
