I figured I should post. Hurricane Ike came and went. We lost power for about 12 hours. It's back on, and cable was restored a few hours later. We were lucky, our house didn't have any damange aside from a minor leak. I wish everyone had been so lucky... In our neighborhood there are a lot of missing shingles on houses and subsequent water damage. A few fences down. And a few other random problems. A lot of Houston has quite a few more problems than that. I'm actually impressed with how much of the coastal area is still intact. I'm ashamed of all the idiots that felt the need to run outside and take pictures everywhere, as they were impairing the police and emergency vehicles. And pissed at the looters (and glad that quite a few were arrested or shot). And mad that the police in Kemah had to respond to a drunk driver who crashed into a tree last night. They had better things to worry about in the storm than stupid drunks who were violating curfew and laws.
