First off, the giants lead their divison 3-1 (tied with redskins) and I don't want to alarm anyone... but they have the #1 points scoring offense in the league, and Eli Manning is in the top 5 for passer rating.
Damn people who watch sports but don't really get it. It's annoying sometimes to have a conversation with people like that....so particularly girls I know, no offense. Something for people who watch sports to understand, a win is a win, and that's great. However, when looking to the future it's important how the win happened, that can have an effect on future wins. Yes the Yankees won tonight, and I was imed by all my fellow yankee fans with celebrations and etc etc etc. Am I happy they won...but I am not happy with the amount of runners left on base at key times in the game. the Yankees only won by 1 point, and left a LOT of runners on base. At one point they had bases loaded with 1 out and got NOTHING from it. If they don't step it up, they'll be out in no time, THAT is what I'm thinking about. I don't just want them to win tonight, or last night, I want them to win the whole damn thing, and if they don't start hitting these runners in, they won't win.
Also to comment on bonehead managing, down by 1 point lead off runner gets on base...YOU BUNT HIM TO SECOND. It's baseball 101, sacrifice bunt to get him to scoring position. In baseball, statistically every batter will get out 70 to 80% of the time if not more, so you play numbers and take that out while advancing the runner into scoring positon. You can't go with this false idea that your hitters are good enough to just hit and advance the runner because the numbers aren't there statistically. Last night down by 1 and the lead off got on, and instead of bunting they had bernie williams swing away...pop up, 1 out, runner still on first. ::Slow sarcastic clap:: And I don't buy this, Bernie isn't good at bunting bullshit, he's been in the league 15 years HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO BUNT. Now it worked out in the end and the Yanees scored, but that doesn't matter. For example, just because a football player does a crazy lateral in a game and it works, doesn't mean it was a good fucking idea in the first place. A coach will likely take that player after, even if it worked, and say "don't you ever fucking do that again." Even if it worked...because it was a stupid decision in the first place, it was risky and the odds weren't good. These situations are similar.
Now am I happy Boston is out? God yes. Will that make me satisfied with a Yankee loss? NO. I want them to take the WS no matter how bad the odds are, and if they lose at any point, I'll be disappointed. I'm not going to be one of those, well it's ok because the red sox lost fans. To me the 2003 series where Boone hit that dramatic homerun to beat Boston in game 7 was POINTLESSSSSS because we went and lost the world series in the end. It could have been one of the great sports stories ever...but then we went on to LOSE. Red Sox losing makes me glad, but that doesn't mean I'll accept a Yankees loss.
