Homer, Homer, You Bastard, I'm Through

My Hum 110 copy of The Illiad arrived in the mail yesterday.  I just finished Book 1 of it.  I've drawn the following conclusion about Hum 110:

I'm boned.

I mean, I like books and I can write coherently.  A required literature/humanities course should be no problem, right?  Wrong.  So wrong.  16 pages in and, as far as I can tell, it's still in Greek!  The same thing happened with The Odyssey, but I'd seen the Wishbone version as a kid, so I could fake it through.  The Illiad?  Not so much.  I'm determined to read through the book, but I'll be shocked if I don't have to Sparknotes it afterward to understand what the hell went on in it.

In other news, I went out with Vivian today.  That was good times.  We sat in Borders reading to each other, drinking coffee, and people watching near the erotica section.  We learned many things from the books, including that daisy chains can be performed as part of a magickal [sic] sex ritual, that published Post Secret submissions are alternately lame and hilarious (for all the wrong reasons), that Geminis pair well with Leos in bed (O HAI VIVYIN...), and that scientific studies have shown that pathological relationships often occur when people mate too far outside of their dominance class (this was from a book on female serial killers).

I eventually purchased Gravity's Rainbow, The Ethical Slut, and The Necronomicon.  It was probably a mistake to buy any more distracting reads, since I have to get through The Illiad somehow, but I figure I'll be okay if I ration it.

I swear, I had something more interesting to say.  It has escaped me now, though.  If you have any idea what it was, let me know.
