american gods in fedoras and russian violinists in earflaps

I just saw The Adjustment Bureau, and it seems the film is this one perfectly decent fellow very late to the party. Rather enjoyable, at times a very successful cross between Wanted (McAvoy, Jolie, the loom of doom and curving bullets, remember?) and Uncertainty (two versions of JGL and Lynn Collins coin-tossing their way around New York), making baby steps towards Inception (and the director's just one syllable away from Nolan, too). Downsides: stomach-turning BS deus-ex-machina instead of a plot; the exposition scene was downright painful and I was making inhuman sounds, I'm sure Max was scared; Matt Damon's face, sort of, but I'm going to let that slide. Upsides: Emily Blunt-- let me say that again, EMILY BLUNT, who is beautiful and entrancing and managed to pull chemistry out of Matt Damon, some good dialogue, lots of chases (they stole one very cool plot device off Gaiman!), overall message that somewhat redeems the movie's existence and one very good punch that I would have gladly delivered myself but Matt Damon obliged and I just cheered. Oh, and there's a Good Politician. Is that a trope yet? As in Unfailingly Good Politician. Driven, completely unattached, with impeccably calculated scruff on his shoes and crystal-clean conscience. And Emily Blunt's character is a ballerina. That's why I think I'm going to go ahead and watch Black Swan already since I completely flunked today in terms of doing anything productive anyway. And then maybe 127 Hours after that, just to max out on the soaring self-destructive ambition. Who said sleep?

In other news, antistar_e expressed interest in Отава Ё [Otawa Yo] that I rec'ced in my advent extravaganza, and I uploaded all the tracks I have of theirs. This is your unique opportunity to make (or develop) your acquaintance with a contemporary Russian folk music band from Saint Petersburg who are more than a bit psychedelic in their zeal for comic authencity--

-- but who have amazing drive (trust me, I saw them perform) and have probably magicked their bagpipes and violins, etc. to make your feet dance against your own volition like in any self-respecting folk tale. So head over here and enjoy.

ETA: You have to watch this! Eargasms and giggles, you shall have them.
