Stars
♫ "days pass, weeks. and in all that time,
mine is the only voice I hear"
Wake up! Say good morning to
That sleepy person lying next to you
If there's no one there, then there's no one there
But at least the war is over
It's us - yes, we're back again
Here to see you through, 'til the days end
And if the night comes, and the night will come
Well at least the war is over
Lift your head and look out the window
Stay that way for the rest of the day
And watch the time go
Listen! The birds sing! Listen! The bells ring!
All the living are dead, and the dead are all living
The war is over and we are beginning
02. V A R I O U S S T A G E S
Great Lake Swimmers
♫ katniss and peeta and district 12
I have seen you in various stages of undress
I have seen you through various states of madness
I have seen your refractions
And I did not recognize you
I have seen you in various states of madness
I have seen you in the eyes
Of a hundred thousand other stranger faces
I have seen you in unlikely and unfamiliar places
I have seen you be reckless in matters of love
I have seen by degrees the boiling point come and go
03. R O S E S
Poets of the Fall
♫ peeta plants primrose bushes in victor's village
I've heard the rumors, started fires
I sowed a sordid lot of plays
For keeps for what I need
Behold the demons that I freed
I've tried my best at wearing the hard hat,
But healing doesn't seem to happen
When you hide away the seed
So when I'm crying alone
Yeah, when I'm cold as a dying stone
Grow me a garden of roses
Paint me the colors of sky and rain
Teach me to speak with their voices
Show me the way and I'll try again
04. O N T H E A R R O W
AFI
♫ peeta bakes, katniss hunts;
home is where the heart is
even if it's broken
A freshly drained heart
That beats
He said, "Who truly belongs here?"
"Not I", she said
I'll lie here, to you
I know this sorrow is sacred and I'll never break you
I'll softly save you
For you I'll swallow the ocean
05. T H E C A V E
Mumford & Sons
♫ they're not coming to the hanging tree
So tie me to a post and block my ears
I can see widows and orphans through my tears
I know my call despite my faults
And despite my growing fears
But I will hold on hope
And I won't let you choke
On the noose around your neck
And I'll find strength in pain
And I will change my ways
I'll know my name as it's called again
06. S T R A N G E R T H I N G S
Local Natives
♫ working on the book;
they grow back together
Cold toes, new sheets
Welcomed all the same
The glaring lamp's on
her job is well done
Half asleep, I'm only half-won
So turn the lamp off
My wandering eyes stop
Endure the thoughts of
And start where you love
We'll start from where we last left off
07. A N A T T E M P T
T O T I P T H E S C A L E S
Bright Eyes
♫ one day, they'll have to explain;
it's like a game. repetitive
Did you expect it all to stop
At the wave of your hand?
Like the sun’s just gonna drop
If it’s night you demand
Well, in the dark we’re just air
So the house might dissolve
Once we’re gone, who’s gonna care
If we were ever here at all?
Well, winter’s gonna end
I’m gonna clean these veins again
So close to dying that I finally can start living
PART THREE.ZIP The last song contains a faux interview with Conor Oberst, and I haven't been able to find a cut version of it, don't know if it even exists. However, radio could very well be the metaphor for the cumulative use of PR and technology in THG, and I can just imagine Katniss or Peeta doing an interview some years down the line and it being a complete communication fail and rather morbidly awkward. It's worth a listen, either way. Besides, I think this song conveys perfectly the idea that there are good days and bad days, and that it's a mending, fragile and hopeful life, rather than a happy ending.
That's it. Thank you for reading & listening! Don't try this at home, etc.
