Noontide

May 02, 2010 13:10

It's noontime on a lovely spring day and I'm having a lonely NATO-filled weekend, so help me God if I cannot take a few moments to procrastinate.
And toss some more music your way.

First Time High; a Jon Brion remix of the song An Eluardian Instance by Of Montreal. It's a pretty close call between the original and the remix, but there is a clarity to this that's subtly better.

Sour Cherry; The Kills. Cause I'm the only sour cherry on the fruitstand.

Somebody Loved; The Weepies. Could you turn me into somebody loved?

Journey of the Featherless; Cloud Cult. If you ask a goose a question, he never shuts up. Besides vague back-of-the-head twinkles of Wonderful adventures of Nils, strings in the background and that irresistible (at least to me) beat.

Storm Warning; I Am Kloot. So, before this, I had exactly one song of this band, and it was one of the most beautiful songs ever, From Your Favourtie Sky. This one's no less arresting.

Talking about arresting, Asking Too Much by Ani DiFranco. Awesome by virtue of raw honesty and the fact that everybody wants what is universally understood to be, in fact, too much.

I'll Be Your Mirror; The Velvet Underground. The happiest song I've heard of them, somewhat surprisingly, it works up a very high level of happy indeed.

Cry Me a River cover by Glen Hansard. If I have to tell you how awesome Glen Hansard is, go and watch Once. Otherwise, it's just what I like about covers - the transgenre-ness of it - the initial discord between the voice, style and mood of the original performer and the cover artist that makes a good song shine in a new light.

I could go on like this forever, because I'm a very musical place right now (more so than normally), but now onto a different fangirling, please: the awesomeness that is Zooey Deschanel.

That scene (and I watched Failure to Launch specifically for Zooey) was so gorgeous I very nearly passed out.

Girl in s stripy shirt with a shotgun? Now why would that sound familiar? OH RIGHT.

Also, Kaya Scodelario is pretty cool.

And the confusing tale of girl and boy colour-coded, dog included. And in case I haven't said it enough, JGL reminds me so much of my first boyfriend it's uncanny.

And I was not kidding about the hat.

Also, I have this problem lately: my mac refuses to show thumbnails of pictures, any way to fix that? I've checked all folder properties and file properties and I don't see anything fixable. =(
