Birthdayweek over

Sep 02, 2008 13:15

Couched in the middle of a long sequence of weekly endeavors, my birthday became sort of another thing to just get checked off. Turn 31. Check.

Dirty, unshaven, and undressed, I downloaded Castle Crashers first thing in the morning. Unfortunately, I ended up having to go into work. But thinking back on it, I believe it was the first time I have ever worked on my birthday. A 30 year run ain't so bad. After taking care of business we took lunch at the ol' Phill's BBQ. Everyone got sides of BBQ sauce for me so I have a little stockpile in the fridge now. What I should not have done is gone back to work afterwards, simply because it would've been better spent on the couch with Castle Crashers and I really didn't do anything but talk about work and my birthday for the afternoon. Still, returning home a few hours later, I got back to the business of Crashing Castles. It is alot of fun. Slim jumped in and it got more fun!

Then we went to dinner at Top of Market. Nice and peaceful, overlooking the water, I mean I dunno. It might not have been anything special but for the fact that I felt very ... content. Not antsy. Not old or deficient, deprived of the past or anxious of the future, a juxtaposition from a year ago. It's been a huge year. Coming through it so well sated and forward-looking was a bit unexpected, and didn't strike me as so until a certain moment at dinner, when I was half way through my salmon to be precise.

What I felt was terribly sentimental, but I will sum it up as succinctly as I can, because I could easily begin to ramble, as if in retrosp... haha just kidding. I guess I just began to take stock of everything that I had been worried about in the past year. Are we, in the collective 'anyone that means anything' sense, going to be okay? happy? And right then, I figured that yes, we are going to be okay. And happy. And it stuck.

Fast forward through a tedious work-week. Slim took me to the Long Beach aquarium and let me saturate on acting like a child under the guise of looking at fish. Jelly guys, check. Octo guy, check. Turtle guy, check. Well sortof, we saw his butt from far away. I think next time we'll take the behind the scenes tour where you get to feed him/her. After the aquarium, we had a few hours to kill till dinnertime, so we caught Tropic Thunder. eh. Then we got, what six?, gourmet sliders from a spot that Slim found. The food's good, but trying to be upscale across the street from the bus terminal is a little stretchy.

Sunday night, Slim took me out to Liquid and let me get a little sloshed. Where upon our return home, I had a lot of trouble getting ready for bed and did my best impression of Calamity Jane's holding up a wall.
