Talk to me, let me know what YOU think. (Rare open post)

Is it time we took matters back into our own hands and started fighting back against the local creeps, since the political machine seems to think the law can't be bothered?

I have to wonder if maybe some of the things I've been reading of late aren't the people's attempts to get the politicians and police, etc. to Pay More Attention and DO ( Read more... )

I don't know, as a lawyer I am very dubious about any kind of "public justice."

Yes, they informed the police, and the police didn't do anything. Well, it's irritating I know, but sometimes the police can't. I know, I'm a defence lawyer, I'm there to slap the police when they do things they can't :).

When it comes down to it, there's a standard of evidence that is essential in justice, and if the evidence isn't there, the police can't do anything no matter how much of a creep they are. I'm not saying the police shouldn't do more, they most certainly should and they do waste a lot of resources in pointless areas, but they are under more restrictions than a vigilante mob

As to tar and feathering by the public - I DO hope the police catch the people who committed that assault and they get their own day in court. That kind of thing is dangerous - how do they know he's a drug dealer? People judge on so many things - the car he drives, how he acts, the music he likes, the clothing he wears - to say nothing of race.

I don't like the idea of people policing those they consider undesireable. I'm a gay, pagan lawyer - how many people want to see ME tarred and feathered? No, we can't applaud these actions, not at all.

I completely understand what you are saying. I, too, wondered at the logic, but had to also wonder the what if's. In my area we suffer from Constant drug crap without the slightest help from the police. We Know who's selling it, we've reported it over and over, there were even photos taken and turned in with the last several reports. All taken by the neighborhood watch folks, but still nothing!

Yes, the folks that did that Should spend a little time in cooler climes, like a jail cell because I agree, what they did was Very Dangerous! I wouldn't go to those lengths myself, I hope. But if I Knew who the drug dealer was and that he was trying to polute my kids, I can't say I would be very kind. Even if it means going "out there" and dealing out some good old fashioned Mom Work on his/her forehead. Yea, smack him/her upside the head with a newspaper just like you do a puppy when it pees the floor! If that doesn't work, get up in their face with a camera and see what happens. If I don't get myself killed for it, that is. ;)

Some things just have to be listened to andf talked about though, and I can only hope the folks in that neighborhood are listening to all sides, Before they go about the judgments and such. This is a good way to get people to talk about the craziness around them, and that's why it's up here. *hug* You are good for the soul, dear, made me think more than I had before I posted it.
