If anybody I know hasn't read this, you reeeally ought to do yourself the favor. Even though it is AU. Even if you're a canon-y sort. This link is to the third of three chapters, so grab the other chapters first (linked on the page). What I really hope is that some of the incredible artists in this fandom will find this fic and illustrate it, ( Read more... )

I already gushed over at Igraine's LJ, but this is, indeed, a singularly good story -- one-of-a-kind, I am guessing. It's full of beautiful writing and is excitingly imagined.

I can't say I dreaded "wing fics," not knowing there was an actual genre for them. But I love the Cupid and Psyche myth and this fic makes fine use of it.

Doesn't it, though? Know any artists who might want to illustrate it?

(Humble apologies if you're one - I'm kind of new around here.)

I've made a half-comic, half-lovely Frodo manip from a 19th century painting of Cupid and Psyche, but I left Psyche as Psyche in it, not Sam, so I don't suppose it would serve. *smile*

YEEEEOWZA! *does doubletake worthy of Daffy Duck* You are an artist! You're GORGEOUS! This is gorgeous. Next time I'll look at people's LJs before making swift comments like that!

Sadly, I'm now at work where nothing is safe to look at *smile* so I'll have to continue complimenting you when I get some quality alone time. And believe me, from what I've glimpsed, that will definitely be time of the very highest quality!

Hmm. You must have found my "Frodo Art Travesties". There are a lot of nice "classical Frodo" looks in there. Ah, that film Frodo is a masterpiece, isn't he? How could a manipper resist seeing how he looks in various eras via paintings and sculptures?

I'm glad you enjoyed it/them, Maura!

I did indeed find them, and those classical Frodos are classics! I giggle now to remember how horrified I was on first sight of Elijah Wood as Frodo - I'd never heard of him before LOTR and my first impression was "aagh! too young! too pretty! too googly! and everybody knows Frodo has brown eyes!" My BF actually had to hold my hand in the theatre and tell me it would be all right. And now I think Elijah was perfectly cast, and swoon over him like everyone else. Thank you so much for posting those, they are astonishingly delicious.

I never imagined Frodo looking like that, either, from reading the book. No way, Jose. When I read the book now, I still don't picture film Frodo, but he has definitely made an indelible mark on my imagination and in my heart (and libido).

As much as I love Elijah, and as much as I admire his performance as Frodo(as opposed to the way the character was written), I don't see him when I read the book either. Oddly, I do hear his voice when reading fic, though. Fic, not the books.

Strange - possibly because I'd been reading the books for years but never heard of fanfic until after the film franchise came out. I remember how I discovered it - I did a Google search that went horribly, massively awry :-)

Ha! I find his voice more tenacious, too. Although, having listened to the BBC radio drama of LotR three or four times, now, I also hear Ian Holm doing this or that Frodo line. And the superb William Nighy from the BBC production, I hear doing most of Sam's.

I'd never heard of fanfic (or "fandom", either), until after the film frenzy. And I was a late-comer to that. What did you mean by the, "Google search that went horribly, massively awry"? Just curious.

*Love* Ian Holm as Frodo! Yes, he was marvelous.

I started typing an answer to that and instead of a few sentences I got a few paragraphs, LOL. So I've put it here.
