Room 434 - Monday Afternoon

Jan 26, 2009 12:50

"Risin' up, back on the street, took my time, took my chances..."

Yes, Emmett was singing "Eye of the Tiger" to himself. You cannot possibly be surprised that he knew all the words to that song. The Rocky movies kicked ass ( Read more... )

Sookie peeked in, knocking lightly. "I'd sing along, but I'd rather not horrify you."

"I'm sure you sing just fine," Emmett said, grinning at her. "The guy who sang it originally wasn't exactly Grammy-worthy."

"Oh, no, I can't carry a tune to save my life," she assured him. "But I did bring you a present."

She held up a little box she was carrying, raising her brows.

"A present? For me?" Emmett's look of glee was genuine even though he had a guess as to what it was already. He dropped the pair of jeans he was in the midst of folding and went to Sookie's side. "I love presents!"

"Jason sent me that stuff we talked about," Sookie told him with a smile, trying to be cryptic as long as there was a chance someone could hear. "A couple of varieties, even."

Emmett bounced like a little kid in a candy store, not like someone who had just been told they have fake blood to drink. "Really? Holy crap, Sookie, you're a lifesaver."

Well...sort of.

He looked down at the box and smiled at her. "Should I do a taste test?"

"That's why I got a couple different kinds!" she said, nodding eagerly. "I mean, I guess it comes in different, you know, types. Which makes sense, since so do people."

Emmett nodded. "That does make sense. Different animals have different tasting blood."

He paused.

"This isn't going to gross you out or anything, is it?" he asked.

"Nah, I've got a really strong stomach," she assured him, going to set down the box and open it. She pulled out a bottle marked 'TruBlood,' and one marked 'Life Flow.' "'Kay, these are the two brands that are most popular, and the only ones the liquor store stocked, according to Jason. There's a couple others, but these are the most easily-gotten ones. And they're both O-negative, but I've got B-positive and AB in here, too."

"Oh wow..." Emmett said, looking the bottles over. "It's been a while since I've actually, you know, drank human blood. O-negative sounds tasty for a first time out. Um...let's try TruBlood."

That one had the cooler name.

Sookie handed it to him. "Most people heat them up," she added apologetically. "Like, if you got it in a bar at home, all that. But I didn't wanna risk someone seeing me microwaving it."

"I'll have to buy one for my room," he said, taking the bottle and unscrewing the top and smelling the contents for a moment. Smelled mostly like blood. He held the bottle up for a second. "Cheers!"

Emmett didn't do anything half-way so he took a good gulp of the TruBlood rather than a hesitant sip. He pulled away after a moment and, other for a slight twitch of his eye, there was hardly an "ew, gross" look on his face at all.

"It's...not bad," Emmett admitted. "Like, you can tell it's not the real thing but it's a hell of a lot better than animals."

Sookie beamed at him. "Oh, good! I mean, I wasn't sure what it'd...be like. I mean, it's not really like the difference between normal soda and diet."

"Actually, that probably wouldn't be a bad analogy," Emmett told her. "I mean, diet soda wasn't around when I was the soda drinking type of guy but from what I've heard it sounds like the same thing."

Emmett took another sip and, unfortunately, didn't think about the whole color changing thing with his eyes. "Or maybe it's like eating tofu or something."

Sookie, meanwhile, was peering at him with some concern. "Um, are you...supposed to be doing that?" she asked, gesturing to her eyes and hoping the answer was 'yes' and not 'oh god I'm allergic to this.'

"Doing what?" he asked, blinking a couple of times since she was pointing at her eyes. He sat down the bottle on his desk and moved over towards the mirror to look at himself. "I don't se--oh. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..."

Well. That was going to be hard to explain to people. "Yeah. It's what happens to us when we drink human blood."
