So, you know the story of David and Goliath, right? Tiny dude kills a massive fucking man with a sling?
Not only is that plausible, it's really REALLY believable. According to Roman and Greek sources (Xenephon, Polybius, etc) a man who was really good with a sling could throw a stone further and MORE ACCURATELY than a Persian bow, which means that it has at least 350 meters of range. Also, blunt force trauma is way more effective than piercing, at least on a battlefield, since a slingstone will break bones where a bow would just put a small hole, and neither is much good against a shield.
The reason the bow was preferred was because while slinger is better once they're a master, it's easier to train bowmen to an acceptable standard.
Dear history, WHAT THE FUCK.
