CHAPTER SIX: SUNSET AND SUNRISE

Tuesday 27th of January
15.32 PM

It was as cold and windy as ever, even with the heating on and the windows closed, in the small but cosy apartment in the suburbs of Seoul. Aish, he hated this apartment the most when it was winter. He didn't notice it at first, but after a while he discovered there were small gaps at both sides of the windows, which caused a little bit of wind to draft through it. Even though it was only a small amount of wind, it was enough to give Yoochun the chills, as he was trying to read his own journal, while sipping from his coffee. How many times had he tried to close those small gaps with whatever he could find.. He lost count of it eventually but he did know that nothing had stopped it ever since he started trying. Yoochun sighed, as he was sitting on his couch in the living room, wrapped in a big and soft blanket to keep himself from freezing. He was surrounded by a pair of cosy and red chairs, a few plants who looked like they had already passed their finishing point of life and a small cabinet that was just big enough for his television to stand on. Some photo's where hanging at the wall on his right side, showing himself with his friends and his little brother. Most pictures were taken while clubbing or hanging around on the beach. Aish, how he wished for it to be summer already, because then he wouldn't mind the wind blowing through those gaps. The wind would cause a refreshment in both summer and spring, especially because it could get pretty hot in his apartment as well. He sighed, after which he took another sip from his coffee and flipped another page of his journal. He was now looking at a page with a few polaroid pictures attached to it, as he got himself a pen to write some things down on the page itself. He stared at a rather blurry picture for a moment, as if he was lost in his own world located inside his head. Just when he was about to write something down, his doorbell rang, followed by some loud knocking on the door. Yoochun already knew what time it was when he heard the loud knocking and stood up from his place to see if he was right.
"Hyung! Hyung open up! It's your dongsaeng! Get of that lazy ass of yours and let me in!"
Yoochun sighed for a moment, after which he grinned. "Yah!" he yelled, as he walked towards his front door. "Hold your horses.. is this how you treat your hyung?" he said, as he opened up the door and looked right into the cheerful and grinning face of his little brother.. well, actually Yoochun had to look up a bit, because even though Changmin was his LITTLE brother, he still had to look up to face him, because Changmin was too tall, well build, and handsome for his age..
"Hyung!" Changmin said just as cheerful as he had looked one second ago, as he hugged his big brother for a moment. Yoochun smiled and embraced his little brother too, holding him firmly into his strong arms.
"What brings you here?" Yoochun then asked, as he freed his brother from his embrace again.
"Well isn't it obvious?" Changmin said, with a big grin on his face. He didn't gave Yoochun the time to answer, as he walked right past him into his apartment, pushing his jacket into Yoochun hands.
"Aish.. it's as cold as ever in here isn't it?" Yoochun heard Changmins voice coming from inside his kitchen, as he closed the door and walked back into his apartment again, leaving Changmins jacket on the hallstand. "Ah I knew it!" he then heard his brother shout in excitement. "You did groceries today!"
Yoochun couldn't help it but to laugh, as he sat himself down at his couch again. "Well it's normal for a person to do groceries! You should do groceries too once in a while, instead of robbing my refridgerator empty all the time!"
"But this is much more convenient!" Changmin said after a while, as he came walking towards the livingroom again. He was holding a plate with a huge sandwhich on it, which had atleast four layers of bread with all kinds of meat and salads in between them.
"Yeah I bet it is." Yoochun answered, as he took his journal back into his hands again. Changmin and himself first lived together in the same apartment, in a village not too far from Seoul. They lived alone there, because their parents had died a couple of years ago. They went out one day, and never returned home again afterwards. It was then that Yoochun discovered the true nature of his parents.. they had been hunters and at that tragic day both of his parents went out to hunt down a coven that they had discovered recently in the centre of Seoul.. It became their last hunt ever. From that moment on Yoochun had sworn that he would do anything to avenge their parents, so he quite school and started to train everyday to become the best hunter there was, even better than his parents, just to avenge them. Changmin on the other side, wanted to continue his school because he was afraid that he wouldn't have a future if he became a hunter only. He did train now and then, but when it became time for him to go to an university, he stopped training for a while and moved out of their apartment, to live in a small flat in the centre of Seoul Even though he was busy with his study, he still trained now and then, but he wasn't as good as his brother, who trained every day and became pretty protective about his little brother too, because he was afraid that his little brother would become a victim of those vampires as well. He therefore left his parental home and moved into the apartment that he had been living in until now. He hated the apartment more than anything else, but it was all for keeping an eye on his brother, while keeping track of the coven he was hunting on. Yoochun knew that training wouldn't be enough, that's why he kept a journal to write down every single piece of information that he could gather concerning the coven that had murdered his parents. He still didn't know which coven it did exactly, because he discovered that there were two covens active in Seoul and not one, like his mom and dad had thought. It didn't matter though, because Yoochun was determined to kill every single vampire that lived in Seoul, with or without the help of his little brother.
"Are you busy with your journal again?" was the question that woke Yoochun from his daydreaming.
"Huh? Oh yeah." he answered, as he looked towards Changmin who was stuffing himself with the sandwich. It made him grin to see his little brother with his cheecks stuffed with bread and salad, while the sauce was dripping down his chin.
"Have you discovered anything yet? Anything about the vampires who killed mom and dad?" he asked after he finally managed to swallow everything down. Yoochun could hear it that Changmin was finding it hard to speak about the past, but he knew that he wanted their parents to be avenged too..
"Well, I did discovered something that kind of shocked me.." he started, after which he passed Changmin his journal. "Who do you recognize in that photo on the right page?" he asked, as Changmin put away his sandwhich, to take a better look at the picture.
"You mean the redhead right here?" he asked, as he pointed towards the picture he was talking about.
"No that's the picture on the left page.. I said to look to the picture on the right page you dumbass.."
"Oh right.. sorry." Changmin said, as he looked towards the right picture this time. "It's kind of blurry.." he said, as he narrowed his eyes. "He does look kind of familiar.. he looks like someone I know.."
Yoochun only nodded, as he waited for Changmin to discover who that person on the picture was.
"He really makes me think of.. He looks alot like.. Junsu.." Changmin said, as he looked towards Yoochun in confusion. "Why is Junsu sshi in your journal?" he then asked in suspicion.
"The same reason why every other person in my journal is in my journal.. I discovered that Junsu is a vampire."
Changmin looked at his brother for a moment in astonishment, as if he didn't quite understand him at first. "We are speaking about the same Junsu here, right? The one that has been our friend for about 4 years now? You are joking right? Because if you are, then I don't find it very funny at all.."
"I knew that you would react this way, but I caught him while sucking someone empty in an alley yesterday night. We went to a pub together and when he was about to leave he said something that made me suspicious of him. He said that was going to eat something before going home again.. so I followed him and I saw him lure a girl into an alley.. that's when he killed her. This picture was taken in a hurry after he was done, because I wanted to have some proof of it. Sadly I didn't catch him in the act.."
Changmin looked at his brother again in astonishment. He didn't want to believe it, he didn't want to believe that one of his best friends was actually a bloodsucking killer.
"But.. but how? How come you never noticed him being a vampire?" Changmin asked, as he looked again at the picture of Junsu. He could notice a few red stains on the mouth of Junsu as he focussed on Junsu's face only, but still the picture was too blurry to actually tell if it was blood or not..
"Vampires are smart Changmin, they use all kind of tricks to get into daylight and such--"
"But.." Changmin suddenly interrupted him. "What did you do when you found out? I mean, you didn't just let him get away, right?"
Yoochun was silent for a moment, as he looked his brother in the eyes. "I mean you are a hunter.." Changmin then continued, when Yoochun didn't answer at first.
"Yes, I am.. and I did do something. I followed him and waited for the perfect moment to attack him. I disguised myself so that he wouldn't recognize me--"
"As what did you disguise yourself?"
"It doesn't matter. The thing that does matter is dat Junsu got away, but I did leave a big scar because I almost managed to cut of his arm with my stake."
"You what?! You didn't use your gun to attack him?"
"I wasn't carrying one at that moment."
"But you did carry a stake?" Changmin asked surprised. "That's not like you.."
"I wasn't prepared, alright? I didn't expect to run into any vampires that night so I left my guns at home.. anyway, this isn't the only thing I discovered lately.."
"There is more?" Changmin asked. "And what are you going to do with Junsu? Are you going to kill him? He's a friend right? Have you got it in you to kill him?"
"I.. I don't know." Yoochun answered, while looking away from his little brother for a moment. "It was already hard enough for me to attack him yesterday night.."
"Maybe he escaped because you couldn't kill him?"
"That's.. highly possible.. but anyway, the thing I figured was that there might be another vampire amongst our friends.."
"What!?" Changmin said, as he got surprised again by the thing Yoochun just said. How could they both be so careless? "Do you mean that.."
"Yes. Vampires hardly work alone and it's also not normal for them to be friends with humans.. I'm afraid that Junsu is trying to lure us into a trap or something, but he needs a companion in doing so.."
"How do you know for sure? Maybe Junsu just wants to be friends.. maybe he doesn't even know about us being hunters and a--"
"I don't know what to believe either Changmin but I do know that you can hardly trust vampires! I'm not saying that Junsu is actually planning to kill us but I do know that he may be on to something. So we should be careful, especially you. We don't know if he has a companion or not, but until I figure out if he does or not, you need to stay put, Changmin. I don't want you to go clubbing with us this Thursday night. It is way too dangerous.."
"But big bro!" Changmin said clearly displeased. "I want to go with you that night.. I can't just let you take them on by yourself! I don't want you to get killed!"
"Believe me Changmin, I won't.. I know what I'm doing and you.. you aren't experienced enough, you will only be in my way."
"Hmmpf.. you're just saying that because you are afraid that something will happen to me. Well I can assure you that I can take care of myself just fine!"
"Changmin.. please." Yoochun said, while taking both of his brothers hands in his own. "Listen to me for once, will you? I am indeed afraid to lose you.. We already lost our parents and I don't want to lose the one dearest to me at the moment either.. try to understand. I promise that everything will be alright, okay? Just listen to me this time.."
Changmin looked towards his brother for a moment, as he pinched his brothers hands while thinking things over for a moment. He sighed eventually and put up a soft smile.
"Alright, I trust you." he said. "But you'll have to promise me that you won't do anything stupid, alright?"
Yoochun smiled, relieved that Changmin was able to listen to him. "I promise.. and I will only look out for suspicious behaviour.. by the way, I already came up with a excuse for you to be absent on Thursday."
"You did?" Changmin asked. "Well what did you say?"
"I told them that you were feeling brokenhearted, because of the fact that your girlfriend broke up with you." He said, with a big grin on his face.
"What!?" Changmin shouted. "You know that I would never sob about a girl that long! Besides, I was the one who broke up with her!"
"I know, but this was a bit of a better excuse, you know?"
Changmin looked at his brother for a moment, with an angry expression on his face. It didn't take long for both brothers to burst out into laughing though, as they tried to forget about
the things they had discovered just now and about the things that still had to come. They just wanted to have fun for a bit, like they used to have when they were still living together with their parents.. The time before their lives became dark and cold...
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Yoochun narrowed his eyes, as he tried to focus his glance at both Heechul and Jaejoong at the same time. He tried to forget about the fact that Jaejoong had been his friend for all this time and strengthened his hold on his guns.
"Yoochun ah.." Jaejoong said in a calming voice. "Please, put down your guns.."
"Shut up!" Yoochun said, while glancing towards Jaejoong. "Aish, I never expected you to be the other vampire.." he then mumbled, keeping his guns in position.
"What are you talking about?" Jaejoong asked again. "Please Yoochun, calm down."
"Calm down? That guy in drag there just drained one of my best friends and I just discovered that my other best friend is a freaking vampire, how do you expect me to be calm?!"
"Yah!" Heechul yelled when Yoochun called him a dragqueen, but when a gun got pointed towards him again he decided to just keep his mouth shut again.
"Yoochun ah.. I.." Jaejoong stopped for a moment. He never expected Yoochun to be a hunter either so he was just as astonished as Yoochun was at the moment.. He didn't know what to say at first.. but then he continued: "I know a way for Yunho to be saved."
"Yeah, I do too." Yoochun said, while he still pointed his gun towards Heechul and Jaejoong. "You're going to take him to a hospital.. You are a vampire after all so I guess you know a way of getting there quicker than any normal human."
Heechul looked up as if something just popped into his mind again. What the hell was he doing? He could just shimmer himself away from danger.. he was a vampire after all! Aish, why was he so stupid sometimes.
"Hey! You're right!" he said, after which he grinned. "Thanks for reminding me, see you around Jaejoongie!" he said, before he shimmered himself out of the lounge room. Just when Heechul had dissapeared, Ryeowook came walking into the lounge, to see how his friend was doing with the his prey.
"Heechul hung, are you almost done y--- ah!" he squaeked as he got a gun pointed to his head all of a sudden.
"Ryeowook ah!" Jaejoong yelled notified. "Yoochun, he has nothing to do with this, leave him alone." Aish, when Heechul dissapeared Jaejoong had also had the chance to escape together with Yunho, because Yoochun didn't had anything anymore to point his guns at at that moment. But now he had Ryeowook to take as a 'hostage'.
"I will if you do as I say. Take Yunho with you and bring him to the freaking hospital!"
"But he's already too far gone, it will be too late already when I arrive at the hospital, even with my ability! The only way to save him is to turn him!" Jaejoong said, while keeping an eye on Ryeowook, who looked like he could burst into tears in fear any moment. Jaejoong knew that there was hardly any blood left in Yunho's body and he also knew that if he took him to the hospital, Yunho would be already dead before he even had the chance to warn anyone.. plus, people would get suspicious if they saw the bite marks in Yunho's neck..
"NEVER!" Yoochun yelled, as he pressed his gun against Ryeowooks forehead. "If I find out that you turned Yunho into one of your kind, then I will kill both of you! You hear me!"
"Yoochun please.. think for a moment, we are friends."
"Don't dare to speak to me like that at the moment! Take Yunho with you now or else I will shoot a hole in the small guys face here!"
"Oww.." Ryeowook whined, as he closed his eyes in fear. "Please, don't k-kill me.. J-jaejoong ah, help me.." Ryeowook was so scared that he was paralyzed of fear, which made it hardly impossible for him to shimmer his way out of this worrisome situation.
"Aish.. alright I will! But please, let me take Ryeowook with me to make sure that you don't kill him while I am away."
"No.. he stays with me until I'm sure that you did the right thing.. now hurry up and go before I really blow the brains out of your friends head!"
"But how can I be sure that you won't hurt him while I am away?"
"You can call him afterwards and see if he picks up his phone, now hurry!"
Jaejoong glanced again towards Ryeowook, who was almost begging him to listen to Yoochun, atleast that was the thing Jaejoong read from his soaked and red eyes. He sighed and nodded, knowing that he indeed needed to hurry, after which he turned himself around towards Yunho. He lifted the nearly dead boy from the couch and took him into his arms, as he glanced towards Yoochun and Ryeowook for one last time. I'm sorry Wookie, he thought, as he shimmered himself out of Les Misérables. Why did it all had to turn out like this?
It looked as if Jaejoong was about to shimmer himself towards the hospital, but instead he appeared in his own apartment again, putting Yunho on his own bed. He sighed, as he looked towards the pale body of his friend. If he had taken him towards the hospital, then it would be too late, he thought, as he rolled up a sleeve of his blouse. He would be dead by now, and Jaejoong didn't want to lose the one most dearest to him at the moment.. why didn't Yoochun understand? And how come that he never noticed that one of his friends was a hunter.. He kept on pondering as he brought his mouth towards his wrist, making his fangs grow longer again. This was the best thing to do, he thought, knowing that he would put Ryeowook in even more danger in doing this, but what could he do otherwise? Jaejoong was in need of Yunho, he couldn't just let him go.. he was his best friend, his first best friend in all those years. Yoochun had no idea how his life was like before he met Yunho. He was lonely and distressed, as he was getting tired of life day by day, but that all changed when Yunho stepped into his life, giving him a reason to live again. Jaejoong kept thinking about this, as he bit himself in his wrist, causing it to bleed. He didn't want to be alone anymore, never in his life. He wanted to be accompanied by something in eternity and this was the perfect moment for him to realise this wish of his, as he moved his wrist towards Yunho's mouth, causing his blood to drip into the mouth of his friend. He knew that he had secretly waited for this moment to come, but on the other side he was feeling sad for Yunho, knowing that it would be hard for him to realise that his life had changed forever after he would wake up again. He was happy for this to happen, but on the other side he didn't wanted Yunho to suffer under everything he already went through, but his need for someone to accompany him was stronger than his feelings of guilt. He therefore kept on giving Yunho his blood, until he heard his friend cough softly, as if he had just choked a little on the blood that was given to him. Jaejoong looked up and noticed that Yunho was slowely opening his eyes, causing Jaejoongs heart to skip a beat in relief. "Yunho ah.." he softly said, as he wiped the blood of of his friends mouth. Yunho looked up towards Jaejoong, with his eyes troubled and narrowed, as if he was suffering from an enormous headache.
"Jaejoong ah.." he said, while tasting the weird taste of iron in his mouth. "Ugh, what happened? Did I drink too much?" he asked, as he almost began to retch because of the disgusting taste in his mouth.
"Yes, as a matter of fact you did." Jaejoong said, knowing that he wouldn't be lying completely, while he hid his bleeding wrist behind his back. "Are you feeling alright?"
"Ugh.. no I feel like I just got ran over by a truck." he mumbled, as his eyes started to close again. "I think.. that I'm.. going to---" he said, but before he could even finish his sentence he had already fallen into a deep sleep again. Jaejoong sighed after which he put his mouth on the wound on his wrist, causing it to stop bleeding in an instant. He then looked towards Yunho, who was now peacefully asleep, not knowing what just happened to him. Jaejoong couldn't help but to feel guilty, as he stood up from his bed to put some bandage around his wrist. Thoughts were again rushing through his head while he was nursing his wrist. How would he explain everything that happened to Yunho after he woke up? Would he still be able to trust him after he told him the truth about himself? That he had been lying to him this whole time? And what about Yoochun.. How did he explain to Yunho that he wasn't able to hang around with Yoochun anymore, because if he did he would risk being shot through the head.. Aish.. Suddenly something popped into Jaejoong mind again, as he was pondering about everything. Yoochun had mumbled something earlier that night, that had Jaejoong worried for a moment.. 'I never expected you to be the other vampire'.. What did he mean by that? Did it mean that he had know something about Junsu and him being vampires? No.. he didn't know that he was one, he had said so himself.. so did it mean that he had already known about Junsu being a vampire? The last time he saw Junsu was when he left the pub.. and the last time he ever heard of him was the day after, when he called him to tell him that he got attacked earlier that night.. Was he alright? he thought. Should he call him? No.. he wasn't a friend of Junsu anyway, or was he? He knew that he couldn't trust him, but he couldn't help but to feel worried. No, the ones that he needed to worry about right now were Yunho and Ryeowook and no one else. Aish, why did it turn out like this? This was supposed to be one night to never forget. Well it sure had become a night to never forget alright, but not in a positive way.. Jaejoong walked back towards Yunho's bedroom and glanced at his friend again, who was still sleeping peachfully, like nothing ever happened to him this night.. Jaejoong wished he could do the same, but all he could do was to watch over his friend and to worry about another at the moment. He would call Ryeowook later this night, he thought, as he walked towards the window
in Yunho's bedroom. He sat himself down on the window-still, as he stared outside of the window, towards the street that was deserted at the moment. Maybe he should stay here for the night, to look out for hunters that had heard about what happened tonight.. Or maybe he was just hoping that Ryeowook would show up unharmed.. Either way, he had to protect his friend right now, as he was going through a transformation of his own. His body was dying, as he was changing into a vampire. It was a lucky thing Yunho was asleep, Jaejoong thought, as he remembered how much he had been in pain when his own body was dying, after he had been bitten as a child. If you turn when you are asleep, you won't feel anything of your body dying.. so it was clearly better this way.
Jaejoong had been lost in his own thoughts, but looked back at his friend again, when he heard him moan and turn around a little in his sleep, as if he was having a nightmare. Jaejoong sighed again, stood up from his place and sat himself down on Yunho's bed, as he stroke his friends hair softly with his right hand. I'm sorry Yunho, he thought, I'm sorry that it had to turn out like this. I hope you will be able to forgive me one day.. I only meant to protect you..
"Please forgive me." he said, after which he noticed how the sun was already rising again, as he felt the warmth of it burn into his soft and pale skin..
