If you are trying to eat seasonally... madrun May 24 2010, 12:41:44 UTC
My #1 recipe for success in starting "fresh foods" cooking:

1. Go to Farmer's Market.
2. Buy 1 vegetable for each night of the week you are planning to cook. Buy whatever looks really great and fresh and appetizing. Try not to overbuy!
3. Take them home... do not do any other shopping at this time!
4. Go to www.tastespotting.com
5. Do a search on each vegetable you purchased. Choose one recipe whether you have tried it before or not... the photos help so much!
6. THEN write your grocery list and finish your shopping.

This centers your meals around what's seasonal and fresh, rather than what most people do, which is decide what they want and then go and buy it, unconnected with whether what you want is in season or not.

I am a huge Tastespotting fan too and that is a good idea - but I also know there are tons of great recipes out there that the blogger wasn't able to get past the photo-police and get onto the site. It has nothing to do with their cooking ( ... )

Thanks guys, I knew you would have ideas. I'm bummed that there isn't much close by for farmer's markets, and they are all at the same time on Saturday mornings, so it makes it a challenge to drive from town to town before everything is gone. It also sucks if, like this weekend, we'll be out of town! Oh well, I will do what I can, because I do believe seasonal is a good thing.

Thanks for the blog ideas, there are so many out there it is hard to know where to start.

Tonight we are going to try ratatouille and salad. The ratatouille came from a kid's cookbook, and I'm hoping if Rhys helps me with it, he will be more likely to try all those veggies!
