It's been a while

...and I realize I have so many posts left unfinished, but c'est la vie. Deal with it.

It's been a crazy few months. Since losing my job in October it's been kind of rough. Trying to figure out what life is going to be. Who I want to be. What I want to be. How I'm going to make it through. And while it has been rough on numerous occasions, I truly am blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.

I've been working at the local dinner theatre. Working backstage for the production of Grease. While I have the fancy title of Deck Manager/ASM, I pretty much just move the car and make sure props are where they need to be. However, it's given me many great opportunities. It's been a solid foot in the door at Circa. I know many of the people there, they seem to like me, and that has gone on to getting me additional work (acting in the kids' show from the end of March to the beginning of May). I also got to be in a rock and roll cabaret with the bootleggers and Grease cast (thanks, Tristan!) where I got to rock out with my favorite band and got a standing O from my one song (getting a standing O in the middle of Act 1? Yeah, that doesn't suck). That's not only a huge ego boost, but a great showing for the bigwigs. I also auditioned for Legally Blonde, and while there are really no parts for me it was great to introduce myself to the director. This guy does all the big and kickass shows at Circa (he did last year's Hairspray, which was the best thing I saw last year by far). So yeah, it hasn't been all bad.

Perhaps the best part has been getting to know the cast of the show. They are all awesome people, and it has been great getting to know them, hang out with them, and learn from them. Even some who were a bit standoffish at first have warmed up to me a great deal, and I have gotten to see how wonderful they are. The downside to this is that I will be very sad to see them go after this weekend. Hopefully I'll get to see them and work with them again someday.

I also have auditioned for summer work at Festival 56, a summer stock theatre in Princeton, IL. It's a really great group, and I would love to be involved. It'd be a very intensive, very fun summer that would really give me some great experience. I hope that happens. If not, we'll see what I do.

I will (hopefully) be auditioning in a month for Opera for the Young again, which means I really need to get my voice back into shape. Some things are sounding amazing, but some things are sucking hardcore. If I can get some $ available, I will get into studio with someone a couple times before it happens. Alternatively, I'm applying for a position at Augie again. This time as a part-time admin assistant in the theatre department. Hopefully I'll actually be considered this time, instead of just blown off. We'll see.

I'm taking a tap class with friends. It's a blast, I'm having so much fun. Learning a lot as well. I can't wait until we get past basics and start putting things into context. I'm gonna love that. I also want to make a playlist of fun Irish music for our class on 3/17, so we can rock it my way.

I'm also getting back on stage soon, in Parade at the District Theatre. I'm very excited for this to happen, I've missed it. Really, it's been since October since I've been in a show. Almost 6 months from when I was last on stage to when I'm going back on.

So a lot has been happening, and I hope a lot more happens. After shit went down in October, particularly when I was in Seattle over Thanksgiving, I decided that if the job market is gonna suck, I may as well try to get a crappy job doing what I love. The Arts. Music. Theatre. Doing something that fills my heart and hopefully my wallet. I'm making a start. And to be perfectly honest, though it may be trying, tiring, difficult, and absurd... I haven't been this happy in who knows how long.

I guess that's it for now. Peace out, everybody!
