I give blood plasma regularly. It's a nice way to get some pocket money and stock up on karma points. My plasma center usually runs a 2-donation deal, meaning you get a certain amount on your first donation in a week and a certain higher amount on your second donation. This means they generally get to see me twice a week.
I usually wear light clothing when I go, because you get weighed each time you donate (that's how they know how much plasma they can take from you). Today I went in wearing khaki shorts and my black Aperture Laboratories t-shirt.
For those not in the know, Aperture Laboratories/Science is the fake corporation in the Portal video games. No one had told my phlebotomist (plasma person) about this. She looked at my t-shirt and, due to the logo being stretched across my chest, wasn't sure what it said.
"What's your t-shirt say?" she asks.
"Aperture Laboratories," I say, a nice mixture of pride and total embarrassment.
"Oh," she says. Her face goes blank for a minute. And then she asks, completely serious, "Is that where you work?"
For a half-second I considered saying "Yes. We make panels." Thankfully I am still a fairly semi-normal person and managed to hold it back.
"No," I say, "it's from a video game."
"Ohh," she says. She thinks. "Is that the guys from Resident Evil?"
Note that this lady is probably in her late 20s, early 30s at oldest. I explained that no, that's Umbrella, this is from Portal. I don't think she'd heard of it.
I should have said something about shower curtains.
