Quick jottings for characters from that thing I'd started months ago.
Takuro Rei - toymaker
Rei is a creator of traditional bunraku puppets and thus has delved into creating karakuri, though he has become the subject of some mutterings and gossip amongst his collegues for becoming interested and involved with modern western techniques. His greatest creation is a nearly lifelike automaton, which he has dubbed Mary Rose. Whether this is in reference to J.M. Barrie's play of the same name, or after Henry VIII's warship it is unclear. There may be no other reason than he likes the name. Rei has become rather happily adjusted to life in England, and wishes to remain after the Japanese Village leaves Knightsbridge.
Mary Rose - automaton
At first glance Mary Rose herself does not seem to be more than a rather large fashion doll, standing just under four feet. However, under that smooth, gofun-whitened skin is some fairly complex machinery composed of gears made from traditional materials like boxwood, horsehair and whalebone springs. She is capable of simple tasks such as serving tea, but she may possibly be capable of more.
