Well you sll know that yesturday Shannon and i were SUPPOSE to move into our apartment...well that didn't work out. First of all, we got there( at the apartment office) to sign our papers to move in. We got there and the lady was like " I got some bad news for you two". Shannon and I thought it would be somewhere along the lines "You can't move in today, but you will be able to", were we right...no. Apparently HUD passed this new law on Jan. 30 stating that
a.) College students who want to move in must be:
i.) married or
ii.) over 24 or
iii.) a veteran or currently in the army or
iv.) be under the HUD law (which is like if your family does not make a certain income then you fall under
this.
b.) any college student who moves in rent will be based on:
i.) parent's income and
ii.) any refund checks you get from school and
iii.)the student's work study check
Now we were told BEFORE jan. 30th that we would be able to move in with the $25 a month rent, so the lady in charge (Paula) tried to make an excpeption for us. She asked them questions about us to get answers, but HUD did not have any answers. So she tried to use the fact that she promised us the apartment before jan. 30th, The government told her that they didn't care, we couldn't move in.
Well both shannon and I fell under number iv, so we thought we would be okay, so we called Paula today to tell her about it (despretly hoping that it will all be okay.) But it was not, apparently fucking HUD did not read the documents BEFORE passing it. Someone noticed that is said that people under 24, their parents income would be included for the student's rent, and somewhere else, it stated the exact opposite.
So now shannon and I are stuck in a rut. We have the apartment reserved, but can't move in anywhere between a few days to 2 weeks (which would suck if it was the 2 weeks, cause shannon and i want to move off campus before the second mod so that we could use our refunds to pay part of our school bill). So needless to say, the next few weeks will be terrible for shannon and I.
...
I feel like a fool for trusting HUD would get our situation dealt with in a timely manner...
