Okay, I've watched it again and I'm going to do a REAL review this time. The silly one was due to me being completely blown away and not being able to wrap my head around the awesomeness.
This is the best episode the series has done thus far. Unfortunately I'm regrettably not as spoiler free for the next episode as I'd like due to the Sci-Fi Channel's regretably spoiler packed preview which is a first for them.
This episode (and the next one) are arguably the biggest and most epic things the franchise has ever attempted. It makes The Five Doctors look like it was made by amatuers in comparison and that is saying something because The Five Doctors is probably the best and most memorable episode of the old show.
I wish I knew more about Davros as I was only a casual Whobie in regards to the original series. But I did some checking on Wikipedia and he's one of the Doctor's Big Bads. I wish they had done a more thorough job introducing him this episode but seriously where could they have put it?
That cliffhanger was one of the most hardcore cliffhangers I've ever seen and would probably rival Star Trek: The Next Generation's The Best of Both Worlds had we been forced to wait for a resolution all summer. As it stands, it's mind-blowing.
It was so cool seeing some of the cast of Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures in the global conflict. I especially liked how the cliffhanger gave EACH of them major problems instead of all of them being together in a bad spot. Splitting up Sarah Jane to get THIS close to being killed before she reunites with the Doctor is cold and I loved Torchwood being invaded by Daleks.
Since Martha was M.I.A. during the cliffhanger I'm assuming she's either going to pop up to save Sarah Jane or the people at Torchwood. My money's on Sarah Jane.
Best part of the episode was Rose and the Doctor's reunion which was SO heart warming that you KNEW something was going to ball it up. I can't believe the Doctor regenerated but seeing David Tennant in the preview leads me to believe this particular Regeneration is going to go be like his daughter's was in that it will be the exact same person. I hope they give us a good explanation for why that is. Maybe the Doctor just REALLY liked that particular body!
And yes, I'm pretty sure Donna is going to die. Outside of all of the hints during the last few episodes they practically showed it happening during the preview. Bummer.
I loved how they managed to fit everybody's names in during the theme song. I KNEW they were going to do it but the theme is brief enough that I had know idea how they were going to pull it off as they could barely fit three names there. Making them go REALLY fast was an excellent solution.
Man, I loved this episode. If the second part is as good as this, I think this will be the finest story arc the show has ever done. *****.
