Yeah, I made it apparent in my review that I disliked the 'swiping' from the film. I can't believe there might be a 4th and 5th one in the future. The 'clips' show was a funny nod as noted to some past live action television shows. Drives the fans nuts, but I appreciated how they wove in some comic book covers in there.

If there IS a fourth and fifth film I won't see it unless all of the original actors return. With the exception of the James Bond films recasts in movie series never work.

I agree with you completely.

For all of the hype Superman Returns got, since they followed the original films continuity so slavishly it sucked. It never got a chance to be judged on it's own merits so of course it looked bad in comparison.

Good point, I wouldn't mind seeing 4 and 5 set a bunch of years later and make little to vague reference to its predecessors as to it making a clean start.

I'd rather just have the original actors back. If they aren't they should just start a new continuity like Batman Begins did.

Have you read if they're partial to returning to their roles?

In terms of storylines, what are you looking for? I'm ambivalent to towards the Clone Saga and the Jackal. A Return of the Green Goblin might work.

I haven't read either way. I'd prefer an original story to a comic book adaptation.

You are the voice of reason, Matt. ;)

I can understand an adaptation for an origin movie. But all of the fans screaming for particular comic book arc adaptations don't really seem to understand that comic books and movies are different mediums and something that translates well to the page often would have to be ridiculously condensed to fit into a two hour movie. Original stories tend to work better.

When perusing the DTV thread at tz I always get a good laugh out of the suggestions based on exactly what you said, Matt. Someone even said Kingdom Come, I mean really, it's a great comic book but it's too much to throw into a 75 minute movie. It'll be so damn hard to emulate Alex Ross' art style.

I really prefer them to follow the Timmverse and put minor spins on origin stories and 'modernize' them.

I'd rather just have the Timmverse back but I see what you're saying.

In a heartbeat, yeah. I haven't heard much lately, but I recall that one of two things need to happen for the Timmverse to return in one format or another: 1) the JL-live action movie gets made and the Worlds Collide DTV is created as a result or 2) Timm makes enough DTV's and with unbridled success, gets to tackle his more obscure pieces that are unrelated to staple characters or things that the suits would be risk adverse to do now. Both are highly probable so it's a matter of time, a year or so.

That would be awesome. I'm thinking the former is definitely probable but I don't see these "adult" DTVs being that successful in the long run. They should have made them with general audiences in mind and limiting their kid appeal greatly diminishes what should be a no-brainer audience for them.

I'd guess they think they've hedged their risk with these DCU on DTVs by green lighting Brave and the Bold for CN and Plastic Man online. Really would like to hear from Timm what his plans for the future are, at least in a vague sense. I mean, he'll probably get bored real quick doing origin stories of one superhero at a time.

I hope so. I'm not a big fan with the way these DTVs have been going. I loved New Frontier but something tells me that is going to be the exception.
