Also a review for the latest episode of Pixar SparkShorts.
Soul
Better than Onward at any rate.
It wasn't amazing, but I don't think it is a healthy mindset to expect every film to be "amazing", not even every Pixar film. It was enjoyable without the glaring faults and visible flaws of the Cars movies, Onward, and The Good Dinosaur. "A good watch" is good enough for me.
For some reason I enjoyed the real-world jazz stuff much more than the cartoon world afterlife stuff.
I didn't realize that was Tina Fey until way late. I should have immediately known it was her when John questions why 22 sounds like a middle-aged white woman and 22 says she finds that most people find it annoying. Classic Tina Fey line and idea.
I like that in the credits the production babies are labeled "Recent You Seminar Graduates". That's clever.
I almost never see films on the opening weekend (the last was the first Avengers) and I think I've only been present for the opening day for four times in my entire life. Sort of neat and cool I got to see Soul and Wonder Woman 1984 on the same day they were released, literally on the same day! Nice way to spend Christmas alone and safe. ****.
Pixar SparkShorts "Burrow"
A traditionally animated Pixar short! Sweet!
The story was a little hard for me to follow without dialogue, but it looked gorgeous. The animations styles and character designs were really neat.
Let's see a 2-D animated Pixar film next! ****.
