I know that Halloween has come and gone, but I have one final thought in regards to the wide variety of cinema offered around this time of year. If I may, I would like to hone in on one particular movie. I'm sure at one time or another you've heard of it: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A great film. However, in naming this film, as you may or may not know, these events did NOT take place in Texas. I guess the film producers felt it appropriate to have the events take place in Texas. Because, really folks, if you put the words "Chainsaw Massacre" in front of any other state, it doesn't have the same bearing as "Texas."
"Wisconsin Chainsaw Massacre"
"Hawaii Chainsaw Massacre"
"Kentucky Chainsaw Massacre"
"Idaho Chainsaw Massacre"
Just doesn't carry the same sort of ring to it. Texas is a state that has the death penalty and is big on guns. Idaho has potatoes and cow patties. Which is more terrifying. Well, I guess cow patties can be terrifying, depending on size and smell. And "Hawaii Chainsaw Massacre is just a gentleman on the husky side running around with a lay on and a chainsaw; more laughable than horrifying. "Wisconsin Chainsaw Massacre" involves sharp cheddar instead of a chainsaw and I don't know what "Kentucky Chainsaw Massacre" consists of, but I'm almost certain it's not that scary. Now "Tennessee Chainsaw Massacre" has elvis impersonators running around saying "thank you very much," which is blood curdling, but I think Texas still has the best version of this excellent tale of terror.
