My parents came over to Seattle for the weekend. We took them rock climbing at Stone Gardens, out to eat at Dad Watson's, out to the TheatreSports improv show, to church, and catamaranning out on lake Union. It was really a pretty good visit, and they had more fun than they've ever had in Seattle, which makes me happy to hear. I'm getting better at planning activities for them to do when they come over. Partially because I've learned so much more about what's fun to do in Seattle, and where things are, but also because I've just taken the initiative to actually lay down plans for what is and what isn't possible for them to do in the time they have (Mom: IKEA is not going to happen in two hours, I'm sorry). It was a good Mother's Day weekend.
I've had some potential roommates check out my place that seemed halfway cool. Tomorrow, two more plan on visiting. I'm a bit excited.
I wrote the owner of the house next to mine a letter regarding the easement I need in order to build a deck but haven't heard back. I hope he does contact me so I know whether I can get this thing built or not. If not, I'll just have to call him. I really want this to happen, but my hopes are dwindling.
I've been very physically active lately and I feel pretty great. Playing Ultimate Frisbee every week is a blast and it's helping. I went for a run around Greenlake today and...wow, amazing. What a beautiful day. It does not get better than Seattle Spring and Summer.
I got an email from the director of my department saying that she'd received my request for a raise and would have to blah blah budget blah check with HR blah blah rest assured your work is valued yada yada. So I'm still waiting on a real answer, but I'm fairly certain I should at least be able to get 8%, which is the minimum I'd really be happy about. Oh, and tomorrow I present my initial thoughts on this Dashboard project my manager had me work on last week. Essentially I need to help design and build a web page that will give someone (think mucky-mucks), at a glance, a decent overview on the progress on a given case. So that's a challenge, and figuring out what the scope should be may be difficult, but I'm excited about being able to work an actual long-term project rather than fighting a never-ending series of fires.
Tomorrow: bridge jumping. it's fun. Want to go? call me.
