So, nine weeks ago I interviewed for a job (which was itself ten weeks after they asked to see my C.V.). The interview seemed to go well, and they sent me off with the implication not only that I would hear soon, but that I would be hired.
Implications are fine...I know they're not promises. However, that doesn't excuse nine weeks of *total silence*. After two e-mails and one phone call not returned, I finally called up the other co-director, and learned that their requirements have changed (away from a guy like me) but they still haven't decided, and they weren't planning on contacting me at all until they had. Really fucking polite, people.
In the meantime, repeated investigations have revealed that, in a town so top-heavy with PhDs from the six universities in the area, there are plenty of jobs for recent B.S. graduates, plenty of jobs for PhDs, but no jobs whatsoever for holders of master's degrees, and this is a problem that existed even before the current economic train wreck.
So, in summary, come May I'm going to be collecting unemployment on a graduate degree.
It kind of makes me want to break things, or maybe just throw up.
