Mustard Plug

Tonight I played with Mustard Plug. I've played to bigger audiences but Mustard Plug is definitely the biggest band I've played with. Everything went basically perfect. Me and Brian split a cheeeap pitcher of nasty beer and then I found out that OPENING BANDS GET A FREE CASE OF ANYTHING DOMESTIC! Holy shit! So not only was I reasonably inebriated, but Brian was too... all for free! I've discovered that I perform better when I've had a few drinks. It sounds weird, but I forget way fewer lyrics. Tonight was probably the most unforgetful show in memory. And I'm quite satisfied with my set. I almost always close with "I'm Not Crazy" but not tonight. I decided to play it as a reggae song and moved it up a bit. Defying sane logic, I closed with the new song "Antisocialist". It's been on my myspace for a week or two, but most people don't know it much. It was a really sweet closer, let me tell you.

The Phonetics played. I feel bad, but I didn't really pay them much attention. They were good though. Then Mustard Plug played. They played quite a few new songs (I wanna say four or five) mixed in with all the standards. It was a good set until the encore, when it became fucking great. The first song of the encore was "Beer Song". Fair enough. After that song Dave Plug shouted me out for the second time that night. Then he said "We're going to play a Matt Wixson cover" which I laughed at, and then he was like "Matt, wherever you are, why don't you come on stage." As I made my way up they started the intro to "The Freshman" by the Verve Pipe. I took Brandon's vocal mic and me and Dave both sang the song together. It was like... what the fuck! So awesome. So yeah, that made my night. Then I sold stuff and even got paid by the venue. Wins all around.

I've got a show tomorrow night in Grand Rapids. After that show I'm going to head to Kalamazoo (not too far) to see Mustard Plug again. Deal's Gone Bad is playing, too, so that show is going to be incredible as well. I'm a real happy camper at the moment.
