Yeah, I haven't been in here in a while. I play a show at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, opening for Badfish (a Sublime tribute band). It was cool for me to be on a stage I've seen the Suicide Machines perform on. From my perspective, my set went really well. The songs were well-executed and the jokes were funny. The laughter translated into about 4 dollars of merchandise sales, which was less than the cost to park. Oh well. I guess it wasn't my crowd.
On Wednesday I got semi-offered my own radio show. I've been hanging out with my friend who has a radio show on OU's station, and have consequently been hanging out with other people at the station, as well. The dude basically said "Matt Wixson, you should have your own radio show" and handed me an application. I really hope I get the show, because instead of paying attention in my metaphysics class today I wrote a theme song. I demoed it just now, and it's fucking awesome.
Yesterday I wrote and recorded two songs before heading to work at 4:00. The thing that's unusual is that both are over two minutes (one's over three) and both are actually good songs. Those are the last new songs to go on what will soon be my latest (and greatest?) album. I'm really excited to have these songs on a CD, because I really like most of them. I think they're better than a lot of stuff I've written prior. Also, there aren't a lot of songs with choruses. I'm almost totally disonnected from the pop song structure!
I'm playing some shows that I'm excited for in the next week, too. Monday is my closest-to-home show ever, at OU. I only have a 15-minute set, which REALLY sucks, and I play first which only kinda sucks, but it'll be cool to play to people who are, like, my age. Friday is a 21deadmonkeys.com benefit show, which should be fun and is for a good cause. Saturday I'm playing at the Neutral Zone with I Voted For Kodos. This needs to explaining.
In general, life is good. Work is frustrating and there are increasingly more inter-employee conflicts, but I'm not too worried about it. Classes are going alright (should be better, but what can you do... other than assignments?). I've been kinda sick lately, but I'm on the recovery. My car is doing great. I'm still uninvolved romantically. Such is my life.
