i had spring break. i did not come home. i went camping. my dad flew out and we loaded up the subaru with everything. drove out to moab. 6 hours later we go to moab at night camped at big bend which has some nice bouldering, but i hate bouldering, its all about roped shit. first day there we went to wall street which is about 400 feet of vertical, overhung, and slab classic desert sandstone. too many people cause it was saturday so we decided to ride slickrock. we brought mountain bikes, i got mine and borrowed alex romero's for my dad and we rode the slickrock trail. goes across a petrified desert its probly the best bike trail in the country. 13 miles took 4 hours, one busted tire i patched, and one flip over the handle bars stylings. i was planning to meet up with about 15 characters who were also going to moab to hike for break from here, but cell phones do not work in moab so no deal. second day we climbed wall street, but the shit we did only went up one pitch about 100 feet up the wall then just lower off. not too hard shit cause i cannot climb desert cracks well, some challenging face shit. the climbing was okay, then afternoon we rode this easier trail which was fast riding with awesome views over to arches national park and out to the la sal mountain range and up north to more desert. rode that shit probly 20 miles then hit up some rest. camp up by slickrock trail which has insane offroading trails, goofed off driving the subaru on some crazy shit, i was so much better driving then my dad. if any of you have ever see that "you gotta see this" where the jeep falls off that giant rock formation for offroad called the lionsback, we camped right near that thing, its huge. third day morning climbed wall street then drove to las vegas, another 6 hours later and we were on strip. grabbed a room showered up and wander around the strip awhile. its fun and bright and entertaining, but not my kind of place at all. next morning we went out to climb at red rocks which is huge. . we wanted to climb cat in the hat but we spent two hours hiking around for a route without too many people. then we gave up went sport climbing in a corridor with mad people but awesome climbs. next day we did cat in the hat up about 500' of climbing with too many people on it though. took way too long cause of people. next day we sport climbed in the morning and much good climbing. i did this 20 degree overhung hard climb first try impressed everyone there (too many people once again) then we went up to the famous area called the gallery. i went up to group of four guys asked them what climb they was on, and one of them asks, matt winston? is that you? me and my beard and glasses were hiding my identity, but the mother fucka recognized. it was chris george i worked with him at sportrock rockville. small world, we chilled and i did another hard ass climb first try then biked down the canyon of red rocks. fast awesome biking and uphill not so bad wind at back. did that then drove back to moab. we went to bike in the desert outside moab in the morning but ended up not finding the trail and wandering around an hour then split back to boulder. back home tonight and everyone else is still out on break. my dad almost cried when we split cause our bonding trip done. but it was great. have youse ever driven 100 miles without seeing anything, nothing, but desert, not even a gas station. there actually are undeveloped places in this country. i also reflected on our war while on the trip cause we listen to national public radio. my conclusion after talking with my dad. where are these weapons of mass distruction you kept talking about bushy. why do you do this war? to boost the economy, to make yourself a remembered president (big bush is only remembered for desert storm), to get reelected (war time president has never failed to be reelected), to get the oil (gas in las vegas was 2.20 per gallon), where was the poll that asked "do you think this country is threatened by saddam? why get ourselfs killed for this? note that france doesnt want to war cause they are iraq's main importer right now, and afterwards US will be. enough of this, it is done. had good weather the whole trip, got a good tan, had a fun time. feel weird being in a place with people and no open country. but there is! going climbing tomorrow. also note that no acc teams are left in the tourny. fuck the acc they suck my balls. big 12 rules, 3 teams left. two of which colorado beat. texas oklahoma and kansas. big 12 fucking rules. duke sucks my balls, lost to kansas, i watched colorado beat kansas no sweat. maryland just lost, i love maryland, but they were beaten by the same team that beat colorado so no one i consider these two team exactly evenly loved. i'm gonna head up to the fox my boy is a bouncer tonight, its a shitty show, but no ones around and i wanna make fun of him. home in a little over a month? sounds good. i love beth!
