Went to El Chile, a new second branch of a restaurant originating further south. It's in the location formerly occupied by Mesa Hills Cafe, and it is a definite improvement.
The salsa was made from blackened jalapenos and tomatoes, tasted vaguely of carbon, and was essentially a thick paste. I gave it four or five fair tries, but it failed to grow on me, so I give that aspect of the meal a thumbs-down. But the primary food more than made up for it: Ricky and I split a bowl of queso (feat. onions and peppers) which came with tostada chips. It was melty and good, but came out too close to the main course, which for me was a quesadilla. Ricky reported the chile relleno of superpassing quality, most notably in the sauce, which was smoky and sweet. The refried beans also had a pork flavor, which was a nice surprise.
The salsa being meh turned out to be a good thing, as it kept me from filling up on chips.
Afterward Kyu and JE came along and we went to see Quantum of Solace. I liked it a lot; my favorite scene was at the opera in Austria.
