Got up and exercised early this morning. Then I spent the rest of the morning coloring, reading stories, and best of all playing with play dough! What could be more fun than that? Then in the afternoon I volunteered at the Red Cross and that brought my mood down. I sat in on an interview of two hurricane victims from right outside New Orleans. It was one09 thing to hear it on television, but to hear it first hand from someone who was there is totally different. They were only able to get about 20 miles north, but that at least put them out of flood danger. They said you could just hear the hurricane coming - it sounded like a train x 10! Two of their elderly neighbors waited on their roof for two days but the husband couldn't hold on any longer and had to let go of his wife into the flood waters. When they went back to check on their house they had to ride bikes because the damage on the roads was so extensive combined with the debris. They said it was nothing like they had every seen before. And the smell was absolutely awful. Ok, I think I'll stop before I make myself cry. Hearing it first hand was extremely sad. I must be insane to volunteer again over the next 4 days! Ok, off to bed since I will be leaving the apartment at 5:30 am and won't return until 11pm.
