Do you ever get the feeling that you life needs a good shaking-up, like an Etch-A-Sketch? That's right now for me, and oh how good it feels to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. I just hope that the Holy Spirit doesn't forget me. I need empowerment because I'm a pitiful wreck.
Vinyl records are all the rage these days, but in all honesty there is something rather magical about listening to an album on a record player. A listener has to be much more intentional. Digital music-in its incredible convenience-is making music a whore. It's so easy to skim through your favorites. You don't have to be very intentional about starting and stopping an album. When not at my computer, most of my musical intake is done while driving, which is a great way to experience music I must admit. But when I have to take the record out of the sleeve and then the common sleeve's sleeve, set it gently upon the turntable, place the stylus carefully in place and start up the record player, the music is more alive to me.
Back to this "shaking-up" business, I can't put my finger on what it is that keeps my stomach in an anxious knot. But maybe a viewing of "The Dark Knight" at a dollar theater tonight will help give me some more philosophical perspective...or just leave me blown away for the third time.
