i have never been a fan of john mayer's pop music. i personally found it shallow, generic, and even irritating. but i do recall being impressed by mayer's technical skills and creativity while performing live (i recall having caught some of a live solo of his on the television). with that all said, and in the knowledge of my distaste for mayer's music, the john mayer trio is incredible. i am somewhat convinced that mayer made the cheesy pop music just so that he could perform great blues. mayer brings about creativity, ingenuity, and a stevie ray vaughan-like singing style about with this three piece band of great musicians. i have only heard a couple of songs from the group, but i watched a live video of the trio performing on david letterman. i would like to purchase or at least hear the entire album at this point. it's been a while since i've heard such great blues music.
