n Reasons Why Saturday Night Live Sucks Now

Oct 22, 2006 04:36

This is just a list I'm typing up of reasons why SNL sucks now. I'll add things as they come to me.

1. All the semi-talented comedians have either a) left the show to do bigger and better thing or b) died.

2. All the sketches are divided into two categories. Live and prerecorded. The prerecorded ones are so extreme that the only people who find them funny are smoking pot. The live ones have all the actors looking at the cue cards half the time taking you completely out of the scene, which isn't helped by the poor writing, who rely solely on the oh so apparent stupidity of it's audience to find the laughs it needs. And the laughs it doesn't get from the sketches are blamed on the viewer for not understanding the depth symbolism of the end of research on "SharkBear" to that of Iraq and stem cell research. (No, it wasn't funny, and no, you saying that we didn't get it wasn't funny either.)

3. Speaking of looking at cue cards, why can't they just learn their lines? After watching an eight year-old episode of SNL I noticed that almost all of the actors back then learned their lines and actually talk to each other instead of the cameras.

4. The monologue. What happened to them? They used to be funny. What happened since then? I miss you.

5. As funny as political sketches and impersonations are, and always were funny. The problem? They get a bit repetitive. After seeing the 357 Bush impression about Bush fucking up Iraq, I get a bit on the bored side.

6. Why must you zoom in on a actors face every time you want to trigger a laugh? Cut it out.

7. Here's an idea. Get a band that you can use in the sketches, even it it's just at a concert or something small like that.

That got a lot off of my chest. Oh, and while I'm on the subject of shows going downhill, I have one more to add. G4. I know it isn't a show, but stay with me.

TechTV rocked. Great shows and great hosts. G4 was a mixed game. Some great show and some great hosts. Put them together and what do you get!? Well, not what they were expecting. But what do you expect when they fire half of the good hosts and cancel almost all the good shows? So when it goes further away from what it was originally started as, what was the response? Fire the rest of the and cancel everything else. Next move? Get any show that you think a 15-25 year-old guy might like. The Man Show, Fastlane, Street Fury, Cheaters and Star Trek. You know what happens next... they give up. Well, I can't blame them for giving up, but I can blame them for a job well-fucked over. Thank you Comcast. You brighten my day.
