5 in a row

I have been bellringing 5 times this week.

Monday was the usual practice at Edgware and the learners are making great progress. They'd been at a plateau for perhaps 6 months, but the last couple of weeks seem to have been especially good.

On Tuesday I went to visit my dad, having not seem him for a while due to him being in croatia. I stayed overnight, which also meant that I was able to go to the bellringing practice in the village in which I lived as a child when I first learned. Late at night, whilst getting a quick Internet-fix (as you do), I signed into my old MSN account and spoke briefly with an ex boss (one with whom I got on incredibly well). We decided it would be easier to catch up via phone, and ended up speaking for 90 mins. It's been a while since I'd had such a long phone chat.

On Wednesday I went to the dedication service at St Katharine Cree in the City. A friend from university had been leading the renovation project there, and the work was completed shortly before. Rumour has it that this was the home tower of none other than Fabian Stedman, and the place where the principle named after him was composed. I'd rung the bells before the work was commenced, and they are now manageable. Before, they were incredibly tricky. I'd helped out a couple of times with some of the work when I was employed in a building just a few hundred yards away, but that was in early 2007.

On Thursday I went handbell ringing, having arranged a couple of lessons for myself when at a district meeting a couple of weeks back. I've not really done much handbell ringing, which is remiss of me being that I own a set. For the campanophiles amongst you, I can just about do coursing and opposites, but it's still rather forced and habitual, rather than instinctive. no tower bells that night though. On my way to the house I was thinking that my aunt lived near by (though I couldn't remember where) and randomly passed her in the street. We spoke briefly, I went ringing and then I called round after. (She was out, but I did have a chat with my uncle before heading back home)

Tonight I went to Aldgate - was able to ring some Stedman Triples, which makes a pleasant change from all the 5/6 bell work I've been doing recently.

Tomorrow I'm heading up to Manchester for a day, back Sunday lunchtime/afternoon. Such a busy life I lead!

Play nicely without me!
