Achieving dreams

A couple of days ago I found this hour long lecture on youtube entitled Achieving Your Childhood Dreams
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo .
From the video blurb:
Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch (Oct. 23, 1960 - July 25, 2008) gave his last lecture at the university Sept. 18, 2007, before a packed McConomy Auditorium. In his moving presentation, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," Pausch talked about his lessons learned and gave advice to students on how to achieve their own career and personal goals.

It's got some fantastic sound bites, which normally annoy me, but it's done in a way which doesn't in this case.
Two quotes I like are:
When you're screwing up and no-one's saying anything to you anymore, that means they gave up.
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.

They sound trite when taken out of context like that but the lecture is wonderfully inspiring.

This has made me think about my 101 in 1001 list. I've neglected to update that, but I have made occasional progress. Admittedly not as much as I'd like to have made, but I'll post an update at some point before my deadline (which is November 16th this year - eep) but also when I have more time to write instead of when I should be in bed.

Note to self before I go to bed: I want to write a post about teaching / lecturing / learning.

g'night
