End of year meme, 2005 version

Dec 29, 2005 11:53

What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Live on my own.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any - I don't usually. *checks* OK, so I made one: To get my PPL. In retrospect, it wasn't plausible due to my previous job with the insane hours. I guess I'd like to renew that one.

Did someone close to you give birth?
Noone comes to mind.

Did anyone close to you die?
No, thankfully. Each year this question fills me with dread; I wonder how long it will be before I give the opposite answer.

What countries did you visit?
Wales. Scotland. Ireland. All for work, though I made an effort to tie in some pleasure elements with the trips to Scotland :-)

What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Time to myself. My PPL. (May as well renew that resolution. Only question is where am I going to learn?) Todo: find out whether City airport allow GA. Else check out biggin hill, booker and white waltham.

What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
December 12th: My move to London.

What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Having the confidence to quit my job with no work lined up. Moving to London.

What was your biggest failure(s)?
I'm ever the optimist these days. I try not to look back with regret. Leaving it so long before I finally quit, perhaps?

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Not really. Well, not compared to last year :-)

What was the best thing you bought?
Flying lessons :-)

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
One person. I'll not name or shame them. Even then "depressed" is too strong. Annoyed would be more accurate.

Where did most of your money go?
Flying lessons.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving to London :-)

What songs will always remind you of 2005?:
VNV Nation - Arena, amongst others

Compared to this time last year, are you...
i. happier or sadder?About the same / happier.

How will you be spending Christmas?

Did you fall in love in 2005?
Love, no. Lust, yes :-)

How many one-night stands?
None.

What was your favorite TV program?
I didn't watch a great deal of TV. The Bill, perhaps, sad as it is.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. Hate is such a strong word. Dislike? Pity? Sure, but not hate.

What was the best book you read?
I don't think I read any books this year. Well, not new books. I re-read a few reference books.

What was your greatest musical discovery?
Assemblage 23. Covenant. (Thanks to faerierhona for that one) Autechre. Camera Obscura (thanks to blimmy for that one)

To live in London. Or if you meant material goods, a sandwich toaster.

What did you want and not get?
See a future post that will probably be f-locked.

Favorite films of this year?
I tihnk I only went to the cinema once, so it would have to be Flightplan.

What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 26. I think I had the day off. *checks* Ah, that was it. My birthday itself was a Sunday and I did nothing special. On the Saturday (23rd) though, jenbird and I had a joint party.

What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
To have passed my PPL.

Unchanged: Black trousers, T-shirt, Newrocks.

Who was the best new person you met?
I met loads of new cool people. _phuturatica_, and cyberpunkgrrl, none of whom I get to see often enough.

Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
4 inter-connected statements: Life's too short; do not hesitate. Instincts are often accurate. Trust your first impressions and have the confidence to act on them. Things will eventually sort themselves out.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Not just for semantic content, but just because I love bounciness of the song:
I cannot turn my feelings down.
Beyond my means to turn my thoughts around,
Expressed in every word I will ever speak.
