What a Whirlwind

I haven't updated in a while and there's certainly been a lot going on!! I ended up at my friends Toby and Moon's for New Year's, which was awesome, with Mick, Maggie, Corey, the Fireballs, a very special someone and some very special friends. It was low-key but awesome. The following weekend was my friend's birthday party, a much bigger bash, and besides some party crashers also an awesome time. I even danced - which is quite rare.

I had to endure the movie "The Perfect Score" recently, which is so bad that it's nearly offensive. It never ceases to infuriate me how regularly the powers-that-be insult the intelligence of the teenaged set. It IS possible to make smart, funny and entertaining teen comedies ("Legally Blonde", everything John Hughes, everything Savage Steve Holland... I could go on) and yet this crap persists. One diminensional characters (including the black dude that says stuff like, "Don't touch my shit, man") and a totally confusing moral lesson. It starts off all "stick it to the man" and "standardized testing sucks," and yet ends with the kids - all of them - collectively deciding not to cheat. And there are a few pop culture references (even an overt one to "The Breakfast Club," which they shamelessly steal from) and it just sounds like your dad making them, especially when one of the jockish guys says something about "the new Ataris CD."

I interviewed the cast of "The Perfect Score," minus the incredibly talented Scarlet Johansson (who wisely opted out of the press for this two year old, pre-"Lost in Translation" turd) the other day and was saddened to see the talent of Erika Christensen so wasted. I did see "Win a Date With Tad Hamilton!" which by comparison was likeable, if standard, and good for several laughs. It also has this whole sort of subversive subtext that I enjoyed. I interviewed the cast from that flick today, as well as Ashton Kutcher (ugh) and Amy Smart RE: "The Butterfly Effect."

I paid a visit to the members of Drowning Pool on Friday, who were unveiling their new singer exclusively to us, and I have to say that while I'm not much of a fan of their band they are awesome dudes.

I checked out Eighteen Visions at the House of Blues that night as well as Throwdown the following night, as they were both opening for Strung Out.

This week I'm interviewing two legal "experts" about the Michael Jackson case, heading up to Santa Maria to do live News hits for the Jackson arraignment, potentially flying to San Francisco for a day and a half to interview Michelle Rodriguez, then next week heading to Sundance for a few days. I'm also going to the Bahamas (!!!!) to visit the set of a Jessica Alba movie. I had to pass up a chance to go to Hawaii for a couple of junkets in order to do all of this, but I'm not that interested in Hawaii nor the movies that are doing press there, so it's a pretty nice trade. I'll also be editing a package on Drowning Pool - my second full on edit - and Bleeding Through are headlining at Glasshouse at the end of the month. Speaking of which, if you live in Europe, please go see them next month with Sick of it All. And US folks, they'll be headlining a tour here in March, with Death By Stereo and Himsa as support (it looks like).

My roommate was nice enough to hang all of the pictures in my room for me since she was bored one day and knew full well that I would never get around to it.

Throwdown's last record is now in my top 5 favorite hardcore releases of all time. And Dan Weyandt (Zao) is officially my favorite hardcore lyricist. I'm working on a new issue of Superhero which I hope to have out by early next month.
