I watched the first episode of the US version of Shameless last night that aired on the premium cable Showtime channel.

What's the point? Seriously? The original UK show is still going strong after seven seasons. It's a great show. Why remake it? The original is already in English.

I totally agree with you.
While some programmes might need to be "translated" to make them more understandable to the general public, I would expect that the majority of Americans can understand normal british accents.

Maybe then people would learn how bad the fake english and irish accents of Hollywood actors can be :-)

I agree with you, definitely. Personally, I enjoy both the UK and US versions of Queer as Folk about equally, but I'm not terribly invested in either. Did I completely miss the US remake of the IT Crowd? Dare I seek it out to watch it for the flaming wreck it surely is?

They cancelled the remake of The IT Crowd before the pilot was ever shot (I believe). It would have starred Richard Ayoade reprising his role, and (I believe) Joel McHale in the role of Roy. Which of course allowed him to do Community. And based on your icon, I'm pretty sure you're happy about that.

Oh no - the pilot was shot. I have it downloaded and burnt to disc around here somewhere. It's a morbid curiosity and yes Richard Ayoade plays his same character - but the Roy actor isn't. Thank the flying spaghetti monster that it wasn't picked up for a series!

Isn't Showtime's other new show, Episodes, about a show in the UK being adapted for US television? How... appropriate?

Had no idea - that is indeed an appropriate premise!

Well, I do prefer what showtime did with secret diary of a call girl, just bring the original show to the US as is.
