On the one hand, I am tempted to download
Ghosts, at least the free version. In spite of all the self-deprecatory rhetoric in the press release about this being an "experiment" and the quality being "wildly varied". In spite of touchy-feely-wanky sentiment like "Eyes were closed, hands played instruments and it began". The key word for me here is "instrumental", because I still think Nine Inch Nails haven't done anything worthwhile since The Fragile. Any band who can flood the tubes with a year's worth of viral marketing hype and still release a 'concept album' that sounds exactly the same as their last release... wait, I'm already on the other hand.
On the other hand, the last time I downloaded anything on Trent Reznor's urgent, proselytisatory say-so, it was The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!. He's like a friendly co-worker who got a little too friendly at the office Christmas party this one time, and now every time he offers me a drink I have to wonder what he's slipped into it.
I am aware that this is going to sound like a(nother) personal attack on
ajkiwi, because I know he feels exactly the same about Radiohead as I do about Nine Inch Nails, and vice versa. But at least when Thom Yorke recommends bands to me they are Autechre and Modeselektor.
