In a Hofstadter Universe
Last night I had a dream where I woke up and looked at the clock, and it said that I was 45 minutes late for work.
Then I realised that that, too, was a dream, and I had plenty of time.
Then, when I 'really' woke up, I was so disturbed by my dream that I was late for work.
I think I'm physically awake in the real universe this time, because my employment causes me physical and emotional pain, but who can really be sure? No doubt the experience was equally real to each of my dream selves.
