The only thing we have to fear
Watching War of the Worlds (which: very decent), something occurred to me.
There's this one bit where the aliens are attacking (see? spoiler already!) and the little girl says:
"Daddy, is it The Terrorists?"
Not monsters, or aliens, or anything a ten-year-old of five years ago would have immediately thought of, but The Terrorists.
Well done, George. The terrorists didn't win when they made Baby Jesus cry four years ago, they won at the exact moment you gave them a name and made them into an entity, and your nation's bugbear of choice.
I love living in a nation where we still worry about things that are actually going to kill us, like cancer and global warming, and some of us don't even worry about global warming.
